Gastroenterologist and Weight Loss Surgeon
Hello, I’m Dr. Jesús Arturo Armenta Jasso, gastroenterologist and weight loss surgeon in Nuevo Laredo, with over 30 years of experience.
If you’re reading this, it means you’re considering a step that could change your life forever — and I want you to know, you’re not alone.
Choosing weight loss surgery in Mexico is a brave decision filled with hope, questions, and sometimes fear. That’s why I’m here: to walk this journey with you, offering not just medical expertise, but real understanding and support so you feel informed, safe, and confident every step of the way.
In the next few lines, I’ll explain what you can expect from gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery, how minimally invasive technology makes your recovery easier and safer, and how we can make your experience smooth — even if you’re traveling from Texas or beyond.
Gastric bypass is one of the most effective procedures for weight loss and is considered the gold standard in bariatric surgery.
In this procedure, I create a small pouch from your stomach and connect it directly to your small intestine, creating a “bypass.” This allows food to pass directly to the middle part of your small intestine, bypassing much of the stomach and duodenum. As a result, you not only reduce the amount of food you can eat, but also decrease the absorption of calories and nutrients, helping with significant, long-lasting weight loss.
compared to gastric sleeve surgery.
thanks to the decrease in the hunger hormone, ghrelin.
conditions like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea.
especially for those with insulin resistance or diabetes.
If you have a body mass index (BMI) over 40, or a BMI of 35+ with conditions like diabetes or hypertension, gastric bypass could be the ideal option for you. It’s also suitable for those with severe obesity who need to lose more than 60-70% of their excess weight. Additionally, if you’re struggling with severe acid reflux, this procedure could help alleviate it.
In this procedure, I remove about 75-80% of your stomach, leaving a tube-like structure, which we refer to as the “sleeve.” Since the small intestine is not altered, nutrient absorption remains normal. Additionally, the production of the hunger hormone (ghrelin) is significantly reduced, which helps decrease your appetite.
The gastric sleeve is ideal for patients with a BMI of 30-40 who want an effective solution to lose weight. It is also suitable for individuals who prefer a less invasive procedure than gastric bypass. Additionally, if you have mild to moderate metabolic issues and want to improve your health, this may be the right choice for you.
The choice between gastric bypass and gastric sleeve depends on various factors, such as:
During our consultation, we’ll take the time to carefully assess your needs, health goals, and personal circumstances. Together, we will explore whether a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass is the best option for you, ensuring a tailored approach that aligns with your weight loss journey and long-term success.
